3rd “Mandela and I” Monthly Lecture with Mr. Thomas Kantha

The United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS) initiated a monthly lecture series on the theme of ‘Mandela and I’ for people who are interested in studying the lessons and legacies of Nelson Mandela as a way to improve their understanding of leadership and moral authority in the world. The lecture series is organized as part of the UNU-IAS project on Education for Sustainable Development in Africa (ESDA), along with the cooperation of the South African Embassy in Tokyo.
For the third lecture, we will welcome Mr. Thomas Kantha who has been nominated as the Anti-Apartheid Ambassador of Japan by the South African Embassy, and is known for his work in the field of human rights. He received the Citizen of the Year Award in Japan in 1999.
The lecture by Mr. Kantha will be followed by a Q&A and discussion session moderated by a student secretariat team.

「マンデラと私」第3回月例講演会開催

国連大学サステイナビリティ高等研究所（UNU-IAS）では、現在、学生を対象にネルソン・マンデラの教訓と遺徳の学習を通して現代世界におけるリーダーシップと倫理的権威の持つ意味について理解を深めるための場として、「マンデラと私」をテーマとする月例講演会を開催しています。この講演会シリーズは、南アフリカ大使館（東京）と協力し、UNU-IASのアフリカの持続可能な開発のための教育（ESDA）プロジェクトの一環として開催されます。
第3回「マンデラと私」講演会は、南アフリカ出身の、トーマス・カンサ氏を講師にお迎えして開催します。カンサ氏は現在南アフリカ大使館（東京）の反アパルトヘイト（人種隔離政策）大使に任命されており、NPO法人ヒランガニ・ンゴタンド・ジャパンの代表を務め、主に人権に関わるさまざまな活動に取り組んでいます。また、1999年に「Citizen of the Year」を受賞されました。
講演会では、カンサ氏のご講演後、参加者も加わって自由に質疑・討論する予定です。進行は、この事業の学生事務局チームが担当します。
